One more day
03:29

Give me one more day
to make it like before
Sharing pears and apples
in the sun down by the shore
Later on we drive
watch the towns at night
pass us by
He sat in the yard
bare feet on a chair
Running dirty fingers
through his grayish tufts of hair
And it felt alright
to be there that night
passing by, yea
Midnight sharing drinks
tea with herbs and mints
I gave you my sweater
and you’ve had it ever since
Though I can’t control
days they take their toll and
Pass us by, yea

Back against the wall
04:24

A thread through
my every waking thought
and an aim set true
upon the heart of what is to come
Be it soft or it small
let me dream of it all
The engine hums
my back against the wall
and the window's closed
but I still watch the wind as it blows
Be it soft or it small
let me dream of it all
A thief runs
over the hill at dawn
his hands full of bird's feathers
and gold that he stole
Be it soft or it small
let me dream of it all

Mind like an ocean
the waves keep rolling in
thought I'd have picked up how to swim
by 26 but hey, who's keeping track?
When all this time I keep on looking back
Falling in love like a child again
with memories like these
who could need friends?
Yea it's naive but hey it's where I'm at
just lying in my room and kicking back
I bear my cross and I wear it on my sleeve
I love other people more than me
My friends, my family, the strangers that I meet
just looking in their eyes I feel at peace
I keep replaying this old memory in my head
I was just a kid lying in my bed
beside my brother looking out on snowy skies
and in those moments I felt alive
And in that moment I felt just right
Lying in my winter bed that night
Watching that snow fall by moonlight
Knowing in the end I'd be alright

Every now and then

|

Settle down for me
'cause you were here last night
in a dream
and my honey tongue dripped
gentle words you spoke
just to me
What if she could be ignored?
her hands so quick to follow
I wonder who was here before
and if they felt this hollow
And yea, I couldn't tell
if the sun was coming up
or going down
and I recall your voice
like a gentle rain
on the sea
Every now and then I
wonder how this started
how is it the same world
that left me broken hearted?

Neither plum nor tangerine
but orange in my memory
was the sky from which it fell
landed there in that motel
Milky moon hung by a thread
just say the word, I'll reel it in
like George Bailey for his girl
you and I against the world
I was born just like a dove
I only want to rise above
I know I should change my strings
amongst one hundred other things
I don't care what shape I hold
this world of pain is getting old so
Now I go down to the park
or cemetery after dark
feel the weight of life again
shave away ambivalence
Once you've seen the darkest night
and some cold wind snuffs out your light
Though we burned up by the sun
I couldn't help but find it fun
Humming to myself again
walking out at 6 am
Into pink and fairer skies
try and dry my crying eyes
